mistakes intelligentsia by a thousand mistakes
These sayings have often had a problem with them, and I am never convinced of their application. Unfortunately, most of us, if not all of us, have grown up on these sayings, and their constant repetition on our ears since our childhood.
intelligentsia |
I remember since we joined the educational system and most teachers have been chanting this saying, "If a person does a good deed, it is attributed to him.. But if he does a bad deed, it is attributed to everyone with him in the same place or situation."
I often objected, and refused to be punished for something I did not commit, so the justification by the teacher was this saying, as if we are used to repeating the sayings without understanding and analyzing them, and if they are correct or not, are they inclined to racism and discrimination or not.
I remained indignant at these statements, until I entered into a discussion with one of the teachers in the secondary stage, and we discussed and argued over this statement, and his justification was very strange, which is that "punishing everyone for the mistake of the individual will create in them fear and fear of committing the same mistake or repeating it again by the perpetrator", My response was and whoever guarantees us that punishment for an innocent person will not generate a motive for committing a mistake, as it is a punishment for something he did not do, and therefore why not make a mistake as long as I am punished for the actions and mistakes of others.
And as soon as I grew up and joined my work, I expected that these sayings would not exist, but unfortunately in reality, specifically these government institutions, these sayings are strongly activated, but here I could legally object, because the law completely contradicts this saying, every employee has his responsibilities and tasks, and confusion is possible only in cases specific.
As for the second saying, and the reason I mention it is the situation that a colleague was exposed to in a work environment, to say the least of it, a professional environment. This colleague was one of the loyal employees who are difficult to abandon, with the testimony of everyone, whether colleagues or managers, even he preferred his work to his private life, and the result is after 4 years of sincere and diligent work without a single mistake, he was dismissed for a mistake he made unintentionally, yes his dismissal is final and not for example a warning or a penalty.
I will be objective and say that the error was not easy, but at the same time he gave everything in his hand and helped to solve this error, and here when his manager told him about the decision to dismiss and discuss them together, he said to him, “The mistake of the one who made a thousand.”
Should I not be generous with my work so that my mistakes are not counted in a thousand? Is exaggeration in work and mastery possibly an indirect reason to amplify my mistakes instead of being an intercessor for me if I made an unintended mistake?
This made me go back to the way we deal with people even in our lives. If a committed and honest person makes a mistake once and commits a certain foolishness, our reaction will be exaggerated and forcefully, and it does not help him that this is the first time and it can be bypassed, and we exaggerate his blame, unlike the person who constantly commits the same mistake, We are used to his mistake, and we may no longer blame him and accept him for his mistakes like this.
Back to my colleague, after he helped to correct his mistake while he was even dismissed from his job, his manager offered him to come back again. My advice to him is to look for another work environment that values his efforts and experiences at least as much as he appreciates his mistakes. I don't know if you will disagree with me or agree on my advice. But I cannot bear the idea of not being appreciative in general, and I categorically reject these statements, for the good belongs to the bad ones as well, and the mistake of the one who is smart is in the end one mistake, not a thousand.
